Technology in the classroom

The technological tools I have used in the classroom are google, youtube, wikipedia, and dictionary.com.  I have used youtube as a visual aid for a speech, I have used it to watch informational videos on how to use access and excel, and my teachers have required me to record myself giving a speech and post it on youtube.  When I study I normally stick to the books from my classes but if there is a topic I do not understand I use dictionary.com or look it up on google which usually will send me to a wikipedia site for that topic.  I think technology in the classroom is a very good thing and a very bad thing.  It is fast, easy, and universal but on the other hand it is hard for students to rely on the internet for certain things.  For example my internet at school goes out at least once a day so if I need to study and there is no internet there is nothing I can do.  Also the internet allows you to take online courses, hybrid courses, and do most things at home from your own computer, while this can be a good thing I think that it has gone too far and a more hands on approach is better for a lot of reasons.

I am a business major but i have not yet chosen my track but this video shows that technology is important in any business job.  Programs like Sage CRM can help you organize information and create graphs and databases that can further help you make decisions about your company.  Technology makes things faster and more efficient and it can retain huge amounts of information that can be found with the click of a button.

Favorite Blog

I am not big on blogging but some websites I use almost every day are http://www.youtube.com/ and http://facebook.com .  These are both very interesting and useful sites in today's society.  YouTube can be used for basically anything; you can find music, funny videos, tutorials on how to do almost anything, and I have even had a few teachers use YouTube as a learning method by showing useful videos.  Facebook is another popular site, people use it to keep in touch with family and friends and also reconnect with old friends from the past.  I use both of these websites daily and so do most people I know.

My name is Samantha Bonturi, I am a junior at Salisbury University and my major is Business.  I am in professor Anderson's Info-211-605 class.  After reading section SG4 in the book I am looking forward to learning more in the class because for our generation, the internet, social networks, and computers are a huge part of our lives.
